It is really happening....

It is really happening.  Our mission trip to Kenya is well under way.  All team members and their luggage have now arrived safely in Nairobi.  We spent our first day in Kenya acclimating to the time and weather changes by exploring Nairobi.  Many of us have purchased Kenya phones and are now able to contact friends and family just as if we were right next door.  Technology is truly very amazing.  Some of our team members visited the New Life Children’s Home for HIV positive and abandoned babies.  We have magically turned US dollars into Kenyan shillings and are stimulating the economy as we blaze a path to Nakuru.  Team members have tried their luck with their bargaining skills at the Masai Market.  I think we need more practice at this.

On Friday we traveled by vans from Nairobi to Nakuru, traveling through the Great Rift Valley, said to be the cradle of civilization.  It is certainly a breathtaking view as we travel along the highway.  Volcanoes, lakes and craters are easily viewed.  We also had our first Zebra sightings, which caused a lot of excitement in the vans.

Saturday was our first workday in Nakuru.  We have visited the boarding school and spent some time with staff and students before traveling a few miles up the road to the Wesley Clinic.  There we are making preparations for the medical camp that will take place next week.  We have prepared the meds to be distributed, and unpacked all the supplies we brought from the US.  Some of the medical folks traveled to the local hospital to observe the Kenyan medical system up close.  I will let one of them share more about this another day.  Just suffice it to say that we are all very grateful for the medical care that we enjoy in the US.

Tomorrow morning we will return to the boarding school to worship with the students there.  After lunch the team will enjoy a safari at the Lake Nakuru National Game Park.  I know that this will be a great day.

We are being truly blessed with many opportunities to witness the love of Jesus in this place.  Love to all at home.  Know that you are missed, but we are having a wonderful experience.
